Default Can't get Mach3 to Control VFD

    Hello to all.

I have a Hitachi VFD, 2.2kw spindle and am using Mach3 with G540 and ESS.I set all the parameters for the VFD for manual operation and everything worked fine. Then I tried to set the parameters to control the spindle from Mach with PWM mode (no relays) but I can't get the spindle to spin. I'm getting the correct voltage from g540 to the VFD but the spindle does not move no matter what RPM I enter in MDI.

    Parameter changes from manual settings:
    A001 to 01
    A002 to 01

    Wiring is as follows:
    G540 pin7 to L terminal on VFD
    G540 pin8 to O terminal on VFD
    G540 pin9 to H terminal on VFD

Am I missing any additional wiring or parameter changes?

    Thanks,'
    Nick

Do you have a RUN signal input to the VFD inputs?
This is output from Mach at when a M3 (spindle start FWD)
Shorting bar from P24 to PLC.
You should be able to go direct from the G540 to the Hitachi.

    Al,

Shorting bar is there. If I'm understanding you correctly, I need a wire from g540 output to the vfd logical input 1 for the run fwd command. Is that right?

    Thanks
    Nick

I have connected my Hitachi WJ200 to a G540 as you described. When I activate the spindle on Mach via M03 S24000 the spindle turns on but very slowly. The G540 output between pin 7/8 is only 0.1V and VFD displays 4hz (spindle goes to 400hz). I've configured the pulley/speed in Mach 0-24000 and the PWM output is 50hz base. Any ideas why I'm not getting 10V from the G540?

I disconnected the G540 from Pin O of the VFD (0-10) and jumpered it to Pin H of the VFD (+10v). Works fine, spindle runs up to 24000 rpm via Mach3 control. I also checked the reference voltage at Pin O and it's 10.55V. So my problem seems that Mach3 is not telling the Gecko to run at the right speed or the Gecko is not outputting 10V properly. Any ideas?

Figured it out. In Mach3 Ports/Pins config, the Spindle row had the dir pin, step port, step dir all set to 0. I changed them all to 1 and it worked! I started from the latest G540 XML file so don't know why that would be set that way (possible it changed for newer models, mine is about 5 years old).
