I assume you are wiring it as REL-04 but the contacts are switching FOR & DCM?
If so you need a 24vdc coil version.

Hi Al
Sorry for all the questions but not got a clue that's why I was following the diagram as it's the same set up I have but I have a 12.5A instead of the 7.3A supply
So is the wiring diagram incorrect using a 48V coil, 20A SPST Relay
from the G540 & 48vdc power supply ?
wired to the (FOR forward run) & (DCM Digital common ground)
Do I still wire it the same but with a 24vdc relay ( & what amp )
Sorry, I should have said 48v!
Al.
So going back to earlier posts
I do need a 48vdc @ 20A like the wiring layout,
or do I need a lower amp
This is the closest I have found so far that matches the (REL-04) in the UK
Should I be looking for a 12.5A 48vdc ?
The current you are switching can be considered negligible, anything over .1amp will work on the command inputs to a VFD.

thanks for the help, I think I have located one T9A series in the UK.

could you have a quick look to see if I got it right this time.
many thanks guys as I said not my best subject..
Yup. That's the one. Good luck.
What you have to look at is the Off state output current, many have 5ma off current, which can be the cause of not turning off.
You could simply use a 4N25 for 50ยข.
In the attached drawing, just separate the commons for isolation, and you do not need the 4.7k output resistor on the collector.

Thanks, Al! I'll try this.
If you decide to use a relay, you want to go with something with low cost, low coil current such as this.

You must have many DIP relay options in the UK.

Looks like you'll have to mount either of these on a PCB? I think what he needs is a panel-type mounting - something he can screw to the bottom of his case.
So I got a couple relays T9AS1D12-48
gone through the wiring diagrams again but not getting the spindle to turn on & off correctly & unable to change speed through Mach3.
Quick run down where I got to
wired 7/8/9 from G540 to ACM/VI/10V on my VFD as pic
wired G540-5 & 48VDC + to relay as pic
wired relay pins to VFD FOR / DCM
when I changed VFD controller PD001 & PD002 to 1 the spindle switched on but still no Mach3 control, I had to turn off on controller again
I know I messed the wiring up somewhere but no idea where as its a little over my head tried to follow posts but no good so far.
If anyone can point out what I'm doing wrong it would be of great help.
cheers
KAT
Your wiring looks good.
How are you turning your spindle on in Mach 3? When you try to turn on the spindle in Mach 3, you should hear the relay click. Are you hearing it?
Have you checked your Mach 3 settings?
Hi jsantos
attached is the setup so far changed PWM base feq down to 50 after reading a few things
Hope this throws so ideas what I've done wrong
I am tring to switch spindle on and off in Mach and hear no clicking
cheers for the help

Your output setup looks correct so at the minimum, your relay should turn on and off and you should hear the relay clicking. How are you turning the spindle on in Mach 3? By ussing an M3 g-code?
Did you check if you really have power to the relay? Do you know that the relay is working?
Your spindle setup on the motor output does not look correct and your pwmbase freq looks very high. Did you setup your pulley?
Check my post 355 so see how I've got mine set up.

Hmm, looking at my spindle setup, I don't know why it's set up for step pin# = 14 and dir pint # = 1. I think it should be step pin # = 14 and dir pin # = 0.
It appears to me you have the relay backwards?
Unless I am mistaken You show the coil across the VFD Command and the contact where the coil should be on the G540?

Yup. I think you're right again, Al. You're the man.
I can confirm Al you are indeed the MAN
Thank you for pointing out whereb I was wrong
I can confirm I can now turn the spindle on and off in Mach3 via the program screen:cheers:
I however have know idea how the spindle speed control works.
I am not getting a very high RPM like when I use the VFD directly.
I am searching now for any posts on this but if someone can run through how to set this up I would be greatful as always..
I have no idea how I ever got this far nearly fully running.
many thanks to everone on CNCZone what a great help this site is for the not so bright ( that's me )
& Al you're the MAN
Set up the max speed of your spindle in Config-> Spindle Pulley.
Hi jsantos
I've tried that no good.
when I run speed through VFD control I can get upto full rpm, but when using Mach I get well below.
So I have a setting wrong some where in Mach or in my VFD control setup.
I can control the speed through Mach3 but the top speed is very low unlike when using the VFD direct.
Any ideas
what are the settings you are using in Mach3 & on you VFD
might be worth a cross check
I'm sure I've just missed something simple as it works just very low rpm even if I set the pulley really high
OK got the speed setting sorted, found the problem was a setting on the VFD was not set correctly still on default.
pd072 50Hz should be 400Hz
works a treat now, I can turn on & off max the speed up or turn down all via mach3.
Can I again say thanks to Al the Man & jsantos who have been a great help:D
cheers from a happy chappy

It is nice to have the spindle controlled by mach 3 and g-code. :-)
Have fun!
