    Exporting 3D in .dxf

    When I try to export a simply 3D model as a .dxf file, it is exported as a flat 2D image of the current view. Is there a way to export a full 3D rendering that you can then use in a CAM program?

    .dxf is drawing exchange format. Meaning by definition it is limited to 2D. Is there another format you can export in, like .stl or .stp?

    Not true at all. .dxf also includes z axis definitions. I know this for sure because I wrote software that also produces 3D dxf files. Here is an example, (right mouse click and select Save Link As):
