Simulation question winch and line ?

My question is can you simulate a winch where the line wraps onto the spool and the object goes up.

Or direct me to a relavent post

This could be modeled using a motion study and then the stress's kicked over to the FEA side of things.. I'd not bother to model the cable as it'd be a huge CPU overhead for no value [unless there is a reason for you to be FEAing the cable around a drum?]. What is it that your wanting to FEA??

Or [just realized this] are you simply looking to 'simulate' the motion of the winch? It's a bit confusing because in Solidworks "simulation" is a term which applies to FEA, and FLOW evaluations.. The product used to be called Cosmos but now it's simply Solidworks Simulation".

I'm guessing it's a simple motion study your looking for..?
