question abour making parts in assembly

I never noticed but there is not part file created after adding a part to assembly with insert new part.

I know you can open that part and save it as a name. But I dont get why no actual part was created ( either that or I can't find them). Save all does not create individual part files. Is there a fast way to do this? I have a tile assmebly of about 60 individual parts.

One worrisom point is if something happens to my assembly then all those parts will dissapear.

Wondering what others do, do open each part and save them? If you dont will they still show up in BOM?

    Thanks R.

you can right click the parts and click save part (in external file)

Default is to save the part within the assembly file. You can specify to save it externally, as the previous post states. You can also do this by opening the part, and then "Save As", and it should give you the option to save externally (to the assembly).

thanks for quick response. what is your policy generally do you save each part as seperate file?

i guess it depends on if you need the files seperate for other assemblies correct? How about not losing everthing if the assembly gets currupted?

I always save them separately. They load faster one by one, and if I only need to change the part, not the assembly, it is much quicker that way. I may start with it in the Assembly, but when I finish the part I save it externally. It also allows me to more easily import it in to my CAM program and machine the part. Can't do that when it is embedded in an assembly.
