| For instance the new Alibre Design Translator will Import, Catia V4 & V5, Pro/E, Solidworks, SolidEdge, AutoCAD, and Inventor Parts directly, but without the Design Tree. Therefore I have to use the Push/Pull Face or Sketch, Push Pull Pocket or Boss, Push Pull Radius, or the Remove Tool. Are you looking to keep the Design Tree or just use a dumb Solid Model to build an Assembly?

| You can purchase 3rd party software that will translate the files. You can even download a trial version of Adobe Pro-Extend that will convert Catia to parasolid.

| The problem with a Catia to Solidworks translation (just because they are both Dassault they don't really play well together) is in the system accuracy. Catia works with a 5 place decimal accuracy while Solidworks works with a 8 place decimal accurace. V6 may work better for this type of operation, however I can not say so from experience. Paul |

| You can import CATPart, CATProduct and .model from CATIA to SolidWorks directly using 3rd party software. Once installed it will open CATIA files directly. You will find such a translator here : http://www.radialsoft.com/products/T...t_Products.htm You can use them on 3 of your models for free. Indirect translation via IGES or Step is not very practical. Also there are real adjustement of technology and tolerance to be done. Only by maintaining the exact native geometry to the last stage and after a comparison between final and source data is done that one can talk about translation. No need to manufacture precisely something that has been translated without tolerance control. For example some type of surfaces are not shared by both systems and translation can only take place in a given dimensional context. |
