Is there a way to produce a 2d print from a 3d model? What I need is for my customer to give me a dimensioned print so I can draw the part in Surfcam and machine it. It is a 2 axis part but he drew a 3d model. I have 3axis plus Surf and cant dimension the drawing...make sence? I does in my head Gary |

| In all cad modelers 2D prints are generated from the model created in the system. In SolidWorks you create a part, open a new drawing then drag the part into the drawing. Simple. The part and drawing are associative so if the part is changed you reopen the drawing and the changes are updated in the drawing as well. Most companies will note, usually somewhere near the Title block on their drawings, to do not manually change the drawing. Making changes to the drawing does not update the part. |

Thanks for the reply. I assumed it would be easy, he just has not had to do it before. I will relay info and go from there. Gary |

| Need to correct myself. In SolidWorks there is 2 way associativity (part changes drawing, drawing changes part) and you have the option to set one way associativity. This prevents changes to the model while in the drawing mode and I always set this option. All of my customers use this setting too. |

| Why go to all that work. Have him save the file as an IGS format file. In Solidworks when saving the file as IGS he has the "option" to save as trimmed surfaces or 3d curves. Have him select 3d curves only. It will be the correct dimensions. Then open the file in surfcam and strip away the wireframe you don't need and machine it. |
