    Solidworks To MasterCam Problems

I need some help with parts I created in Solid works and tool path in MasterCam 3x. I put something up on the MasterCam forum, but no one was able to answer, so I figure I will try here.

    1) When creating pocket tool paths in MC for Solid works part files, often additional geo is needed to be created in MC to properly clear out the pockets, practically on the edge of a profile cut. Any tricks to help with that?

    2) Even thou most my parts are in 2D, I still like to tool path them in 3D in MC to take advantage of the auto depth. But this does creates a problem in MC if I want to nest parts together because MC does not support solid nesting. Any ideas how to nest multiple part files that contain solids in MC?

Is there a way to remove the solid after the tool path has been created?????

    THANKS
    Steve

    Cool

Steve, I think the Mastercam forum answered this question many times.

    Mike,
It sounds to me like you are trying to do 2d machining by picking 3d entities(surfaces and solids) The prefered method in MC is to create boundary curves on your solids/surfaces and use them for the 2d toolpaths...no need to use surfacing toolpaths to do 2d work.....keep it simple...even with different depth islands it's still 2d work

    Check again.

Wasn't this answered as a stock boundary setting?
And someone explained how to chain and add a boundary line?

    See above.

I don't know, why would you want to anyway? Isn't the toolpath based upon the solid's geometry?

    THANKS

I'm not being a wise guy, but it seems your questions were answered, but you insist on 'beating a dead horse' for an answer or a short cut that doesn't exist.

    Steve,

I wanted to add that the people over in the MC forum are very helpful and have a vast amount of knowledge that they pass along freely to anyone, including free video how-to's.

Obviously I still am having problems if I am still asking!

If you don’t want to help, then don’t reply!

I truly appreciate all the help I get from using this forum and although I don’t always understand the information given to me, I don’t expect some to loose patients with me and/or be rude.

Whenever I can give my specialized help to the community I do, but I don’t jump on someone back if they don’t understand or seek a second opinion.
I have searched the forum before posting my questions but nothing seems to fit. So excuse me if it sounds like OLD NEWS to you

Bottom line- It’s better to say nothing then to be condescending!

I read the replies at MC forum, they answered all your questions

It wasn't a Solidworks question, had nothing to do with it at all, what did you expect?

I've never lost a patient, I always found them.

    Not rude.
Rude would be if I asked a specific software question to a group of people who are the experts and when I didn't like their answer go ask the same question somewhere else.

I'm sorry if you are so sensitive, but I don't remember standing on my soapbox nor breathing fire whilst I replied to your message.

Your nesting question was the last one I read. I don't know about MC, but in Solidworks you can create the nested parts in an assembly and maybe bring that into MC. If MC can't do assemblies, then within Solidworks the same assembly can be 'joined' which converts the assembly to a single part. You could create the joined parts as you wish, as you need them.

    Condescending?

    Non Condescending Mode ON
    Opinion Mode ON

I didn't ask if your software was legitimate. Usually when someone asks very basic noobie questions, they are hiding the fact the software is cracked or downloaded from a torrent, 'borrowed', or just lazy. The software is expensive. When you buy it, it comes with books, help files with tutorials and examples to help get you going. It's very strange when someone spends thousands of dollars on software and resorts to asking, 'How do I draw a line?', 'How do I CAD and then CAM', 'How do I draw a circle with a line command', 'I have problems chaining, so I don't want to use it, can you tell me how to get the software to work the way I want it to?', etc, etc.

    OFF-OFF

Other bottom line ---- Read the help files, read the book, follow the tutorials, look at the examples.

Oh, and get some thicker skin. It's very easy to be offended if you are not use to forums.
