Is there a way that Solidworks can build a 3D model from multiple 2D images (jpg, bmp, etc)?

nope. they tell me artificial intelligence isn't due out until 2010.
All joking aside, there are programs out there that will do 'some' of this. As far as I know there isn't anything out there that will do complex shaping [ie take 5 pictures of a F-18 and it will enable you to make a 100% accurate model. SW will enable you to import 2D pictures and then use them as a visual referance when sketching.

actually there is
and it produce very nice results
its called 3dsom
Interesting. I took a look over their site. I appears for 'graphically representative' models it would work pretty well. I'm curious as the the absolute accuracy of the models however. I see in several pictures that alot of the model detail is taken care of by wrapped mapping of the surface. [ie the surface detail is actually a 'picture' rather than actual modeled details] For alot of stuff, this would be fine but for accurate models [say to replicate a model so you can copy and create new injection molds] I don't think it'd be accurate enough. [But then I've not actually played w/ it to know 'for sure']
