I am using sw 2009 in creating an assembly what is the easiest way to use a previous part for use in creating my next part for the assembly?

If your wanting to take an existing part to create a new part, and don't want to keep any relationship from one to the other, you can do a 'save as' on your initial part, just make sure to check the box that says 'Save as copy', and save it as a new file name.

Problem being w/ using Save As is that it will [depending on various things] often link old assemblies which used that part, to the new part your creating. If this isn't a problem fine, if however it is then there are a couple ways to complete the task.

You can use Save As and then click 'references' and remove all references before saving. You can copy it in Explorer [easiest IMO]

Or use the pack and go function of either windows or Sw explorer to copy the file w/ whatever referenced files [or none] that you want.
