I work for a small prototype company, (1 toolmaker me & 1 1/2 engineers). The problem is the 1/2 engineer is having a problem converting a digitized file to 3d surfaces or Solid format for CAM. We had a Stereolithigraphy part digitized and put in an Iges Format he has been working for a month now trying to get all the rough edges smoothed out. I do not have solidworks exp. but I think it should be an easier & faster process. If anyone has exp. in this I would appreiciate the help. THANK YOU,

| When you say you had a part digitized, I am thinking that you had a part laser scanned. Is this correct? Most of the scanned files will be STL data when you get the file. You said you got an IGES file. Was the file wire frame data? Well anyway, if IGES was not the option for you then next time ask for a few different output files from the scanner. Get STL, VRML, IGES and try them all to see if one is better than the other in SolidWorks. Some CAD packages work better with different types of files. Maybe Rhino will convert an STL better than SolidWorks. If so then use Rhino to get your solid from the STL data and then output the file in IGES to SolidWorks. It will take some experimenting to find the best path for you.
