| Hello! What a great site with lots of informative folks! I'm looking for any help and direction. Here is what I am trying to do. I would like to convert a AUTOdesk 3D studio MAX model to a format that could be used by a CNC , EDM or SLA machine to produce a mold / prototype. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can send screenshot of the model if that would help. thanks!!!! phil |

| Hi: Investigate the file formats that the software can export. This could be found in HELP,file, export. For 3D work some desirable formats are : STEP AP203 (.step) or Parasolids (.xt) or IGES (.igs)there are also specific formats like .stl that are used for sterolithography. For 2D profiling : .dxf or .dwg (.dxf is by far the most popular 2D format, most CAD/CAM software can read this format) regards |

I've been trying to get bits of information to try to figure this process out, more to it then I originaly thought!! All help is greatly appreciated, here is my altamate question: Does anyone know how I would take on this process: I would like to take a .max(autoCAD 3D studio) file of an insect that also had a textured 3D graphic, modify it (take the legs and wings off) and export it to a format that a CNC , EDM or SLA machine can read (usually Solidworks, UG, Pro-Engineer software, .IGS , or .X-T, or .STP ???) Then I would like to use the texture file as the graphic to have applied to the real life proto type. Can ANYONE give me any thoughts, direction, ideas......hope! hahah ... on this process. Thanks a million!! phil |
