Hi guys, I don't really know how to title this, but I am working on parts that once assembled make an entire model/assembly. The problem is I can't build the parts without references to the entire assembly. Example, let's say you draw a nail and a board. The assembly is the nail through the board as if hammered, the problem being I can't determine length of the nail until I've sketched the board and the location on the board where the nail goes. So I have to draw the complete nail and board in one part document and then assemble the nail and the board separately into the assembly document. Where should I be looking in the help doc to do this? -Matt

If i'm understanding the question draw the nail and board in separate part file. start an assembly. to add more nails or boards to assembly hold control key and drag one more nail in or board. To adjust the nail length open part file of the nail and change dimension. If you have different nail lengths you can make multiple configurations of the nail. If you have a sketch of some sort put it up on site to review. JC |
