Sweep?

Hi,

I'm having problems with the sweep function. I want to create a cover for the removable hatch of my plane with some thickness. I have created the front curve that I want to sweep and the guide curves. One shows how high it should go, and the other shows how the curve should get thinner the farther it goes. When I make the sweep, it just twists the front curve and does not follow the guide curves. Any ideas on what to do?

I have attached pics of the curves and the result. I made one of the guide curves a path, and the other a guide curve. I also used the option to use one guide curve and the path.

Also, if I mirrored one of the side curves and chose use both guide curves, nothing would show up.

Thanks

Sebastian

I think what you want to do would work better by lofting, rather than sweeping. In my experience with sweeps, the second drawing is consistant with their typical behavior, and may not end up being the most appropriate tool to use.....

Hey CanadaMaxxar,

But then how do I create the end profile for the loft such that when the loft is made, it touches the inner formers. This is why I was trying to make a sweep, because I knew the shape of the guide curves but not the actual end profile.

Also for the loft, if I were to attach the front former and the third former as profiles, would I be able to extend the shape past the third former if my guide curves were longer than the position of the third former?

Thanks

Sebastian

I think the answer to all of your questions is: it depends on where you put the final plane.

When using a sweep, the sweep function follows the profile for the length of the path. The only thing I've found that changes that is the "end tangency" feature, but I don't think it will help you.

A loft will change its' shape between the planes you've created dependant on the shapes drawn on each of those planes, so you will need to create the front shape, blend it to the next shape (on the next plane), and if there are no more shape changes, a final plane at the rear of the cockpit area with the profile of the rear section of the cover.

This is kind of hard to describe, and the terminologies can get muddy, but if you'd like to email me the assy file (and associated parts files) in a .zip file, I will take a crack at it, and you could then see what I did.......I cannot help but think that the "convert geometry" command would be helpful for this....

I have sent you my address VIA PM's
