ihavenofish... can you expand on the anitmation comment? Solidworks does have some animation abilities but they are far removed from something like lightwave..

    Curious..

my comment didnt mention solidworks or lightwave. i was just saying theres only one genetic apple / orange hybrid, but it tastes a bit like cardboard.

ihavefish... you'd mentioned the only program that could do animation in a Cad type system was 3dmax.. I assumed this criteria to encompass Solidworks as it is such a Cad system.. I've never done any animation other than in Solidworks and that was simplistic but good for what I needed..

this is what i mean by animation:

    :P

ger was saying that lightwave does not do drawing and isnt "cad". which is true. i was suggesting that the only app that sorta does both cad and real animation is 3dsmax, but that its still pretty lack lustre in the cad department, so expecting some sort of cross over app that does everything well is a bit of a pipe dream.

ive tried many cad programs over the years, and for ui and features, solidworks is the best by a mile.

Got ya! it's interesting to see people discuss modeling systems... everyone has a picture of what they are discussing but it's often blurred by personal experiance and explination. I'd agree that Solidworks is not a animation system anywhere NEAR that type of animation..

I would also agree that it's well out infront when it comes to UI and features, as well as just all around work flow and data crunching/creating ability.
