    SW feature tree question

    Hi All,

Please pardon my ignorance. I'm used to sketching and featuring in one part file and then saving
the individual components to cam out. In previous versions of SW you could, while in a sketch,
click on a lower sketch to be able to see the parts below it to use as reference in changing the part above it in the tree. I think it was called roll back or forward, something like that, anyway it let me see the parts below. In 201, clicking on the sketch (grayed out and below active sketch) not active only shows 3 options, none of which let me make it visible. All i can do is exit the sketch and rearrange the features or sketches. I've dug through the help and customize menu
but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Jeff

    Morning,
I am fairly new to the SW world. I do know that it is much easier to draw each part seperately, then assemble/mate them into an assembly. I'm curious as to how youcan exit the sketch and then rearrange you're features/sketches. If you want to change things around isn't that editing or changing your sketch? Could you post your drawing? i may be able to help you out. I have been through the basic modeling and sheet metal courses, if I can't figure it out my instructor probably can.

Which version are you using? I haven't got my hands on 2011 but in 2010 you could still right click a downstream feature while editing a sketch & do a roll forward.

The 3 options you mentioned, is "Customize Menu" one of them? If so then click on it then check mark menu options you need.

    HI,

Thanks for the replies. I'm using 2011. In 2010 I would create a part (sketch), or that is to say a group of parts (sketches) that need to work together, using a previous sketch as reference to draw the next sketch. In 10' I could work on any of the sketches and turn on a sketch below it on the feature tree so i could see it to change a previous sketch. As you mentioned Emonje, by using the roll forward. I cant find anything like that in 2011. I cant find anyway to view a sketch lower in the tree than the one I'm working on. Yes, one of the options is customize but i see nothing in there to get me where I'm trying to go.

I agree that an assembly might be easier, but i don't know enough at this point how you can draw a bunch of different parts that have to work together with having them to reference. I know I'm doing this bassackwards. Probably used Autocad too long. I don't do a lot of featuring, if at all, just enough sketching to to be able to generate tool paths. I guess it's time to hit the books.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Right click on the grayed sketch or item.
Left click on the hide show icon.
    Bam

(glasses icon in bottom left of the pop-up menu)
Make sure "sketch" is turned on in the view menu

If the sketch is above the roll-back bar and it's grayed-out, then it is suppressed. You would have to un-supress it to see it.
