3D text

Hi,

I would like to know how to draw a text in 3D around a diameter? I'm going to engrave it on a swiss type machine.

Thanks for your help,

Deco_2000

the easyest way to do this is to make an sketch that contains the text (use the insert text menu in the sktech environment) you want, above the surface you want the text on. (see image #1 http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...lidFloyd/1.jpg )

Then you can use the "project curve" command to project the text sketch down to the sylinder surface. (See image #2 http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...lidFloyd/2.jpg )

Now you can use the "Normal CurOut" tool to do an cutout of the text (see image #3 http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...lidFloyd/3.jpg ), or "Normal Protrusion" tool to do an protrusion of the text. (See image #4 http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...lidFloyd/4.jpg )

Hope this helps.

Thanks but I need more info

Hi,

Thanks for your help. What am I trying to do is to get just a font with one line. Then my CAM system recognise it and can calculate the way. I would like to machine it on a swiss type machi.(Tornos or Citizen or Star) with one engraving tool, not with a small end mill. And the exemple you draw needs to take one end mill to produce it and I don't want.

See ya,

Cédric

i see... usualy fore engraving i will use my CAM program to add the Text. Then you can use the "lines". I don`t think you can get SE to show anything else but the solid when exporting it to CAM.

What CAM system are you using?

I use EdgeCAM, here i can type inn the text i want, then wrap it around a sylinder and use an text mill\ engraving comand and rotary milling to do what you want.

3D text

Hi,

I'm using Alphacam which is a CAD-CAM system and allow me to do it directly on the 3D and also a really cool new CAM sytem which is call SylvieXpert (http://www.sylviexpert.com) The problem I have to import it directly in 3D.

I guess I still have to dig it.

See ya,

Cédric
