Default Side by Side errors starting ST2

    SE ST-2 on Windows 7 64bit.
It used to work but something happened..
I tried repair, then uninstall-reboot-install. No help.
Using sxstrace.exe in DOS i get:
    ERROR: Cannot resolve reference Microsoft.VC90.MFC,processorArchitecture="amd64",p ublicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",vers ion="9.0.21022.8".

From a lot of googling that apparently has to do with Visual studio debug routines and suggested installing Visual Studio 2008 trial which unfortunately is now removed from MS only 2010 & 2012 are now available. I found SP1 and ran the repair option but still not working.

I also did a full repair install of Windows-7 but no luck.
Below is the last section of the sxstrace log
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance,
    Bertho

Run both of the redistributables in this order listed:

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

This "should" fix the side by side error. Windows will force the use of the newer one, even if the app did a failed point to a no longer listed one.

The info you were steered towards regarding Visual studio, is info for the app developers and the compiling/distribution of their app.

Thanks Burrman for a fast reply.
I tried the sequence of downloads as suggested. In both cases it gave me the option to "repair" which I did.
Unfortunately I still get the same Side by Side error message.

I tried that too but unfortunately I still get the error.
    Any more suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Hey Bertho,
    Great news!
A note for this. If you ever do "restore or OS re-install" type operations, you should go to windows update and run that continuously until it says no more......
