    Angry Ramp down outside material

    Hi all

Just a quick question, how do I tell the tool to ramp down outside the material using 3D Milling and using HSM?

I tried normal settings with HSM with courtour roughing. I have a 63mm shell mill and default settings were 2deg, but this done this over the material and even though the tool was moving about 100mm along, it still ground the spindle to a halt. So for safety sake, is there a tick button to say always go down in Z outside of stock material, in both 3D milling and HSM?

In 3D milling, set the technology to "Constant Z" and then set the Z-entry to "Angle between paths" and set the angle accordingly (I like a shallow angle of aout 5° myself).

I haven't tried do it in HSM so I can't help there I'm afraid.

For the roughing, in 3D Milling lode at the Mode button and see if forcing the tool to always approach a pocket from the outside does what you want.

In contour roughing click 'detect core areas' on the Passes/passes tab.

On the Link/Strategy tab see Horizontal Link clearance. This sets how far off the job the cutter will start. Let's say you have a 63mm cutter, set this to 35mm or so for some clearance.

    Disclaimer:

It works for me, but I accept no responsibility for your 63mm shell mill :-)
