Ethernet is not used. If you don't use a Smoothstepper, you need to use a parallel port.Am I correct with my hardware configuration setup as follows; PC/Eithernet or USB cable/Smooth Stepper connected directly board to board to the C32 Beaker Board http://www.kelinginc.net/C32Manual.pdf and using the on board connection blocks RJ45 connectors for all I/Os and as CNC4PC suggest you only have to use standard networks cable to make all connections. These I can directly connect to the respective Digital Stepper Drivers with the addition of C34KL - Driver to RJ45 Connector Board CNC Break Out Board, CNC router.
It would appear to me that the C34KL may only work with certain drives that have matching pin locations.
But yes, for the most part, you are correct.
