    Upgrading

Hi long time since I have been here.

I am considering upgrading to the Granite 1340 IMX from my AT-300. I like the old one, but I got it used and its pretty beat up. Learned alot from it too.

What does everyone think about the 1340 IMX?

I can't speak from any experience with the Smithy machines, but looking at the brochures, it looks like the new machine is essentially a larger version of what you already have. I would guess that whatever milling shortfalls you had on your old machine will still be there with the new one. Without some sort of support at the tailstock end, those mill heads are not stable enough for anything but very light cutting.

Actually my 1995 Shoptask was similar to the Smithy IMAX in size and design. I know pretty well the limitations of that design. My new Patriot is a whole generation better.
