Default Stupid Simple Bar Puller - on the FL300 lathe

I haven't seen this idea posted before so I thought I would share.

This is a simple bar puller - an empty ER25 collet. Works perfectly and is easy to dial in the right tension.
I do make a 0.025 chamfer on the end of the rod after a part off to make it easier for the stock to slide into the collet.

Lovin' the FL300 lathe. Easy code to open (M11) and close (M10) the chuck.

Nice job brianbonedoc. I am sure you have already figured it out, but if you add line numbers....like N1 as the first line, on the last line, you can add a GOTOB N1 statement and loop through your program for multiple parts.

    Have a good day!

    Neat Brian !
You're just using collet tension provided by the nut to do that?? Slick!!

Dan yes that way it's easy to dial in the tension. I did shove a 1/2 in aluminum rod down the back of the tool holder to keep forward pressure on the collet. Without it the collet would get pushed back as the stock was pushed into the collet.

I don't think I would have ever thought of doing that!! Just neat!

I see you have coolant at the turrett like I do. Do you by chance know the thread of those brass ports?? I need to get those aimed the right direction with some fittings & tubing. I WISH we could just buy the parts!!

Brian, as far as I can tell it's metric... and I think M4 is close. Nothing in my shop will scrw into it so I am sure it's metric. I'll get to the bottom of it tomorrow and will let you know. I just thought you might have already known. I'll drop Kade a note and see if we can just buy the parts.

    Thanks Brian. Dan.

Default Stupid Simple Bar Puller - on the FL300 lathe

I was almost thinking the tormach ones may fit - or I will just buy some copper tubing and thread it on the lathe
I'm out of town so I can't test it now

I just put in an M5x.8 and it threads in perfectly. That seems to be the same size that tormach sells. If i can find some 5mm copper tube I'll just make my own

Thanks Brian! I hadn't had time to look into it any further. I did drop Kade a note but haven't had a reply. He may be traveling again. THANKS!!! Dan.

Default Stupid Simple Bar Puller - on the FL300 lathe

Dan - so check this out: I bought 3/16 copper brake line from amazon 25ft/$25
25 Ft. Roll / Coil of 3/16" Copper Nickel Brake Line Tubing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015YGQYW2..._pcE6GQVDgNOfE

Then cutoff about 10" and threaded 3/8" of the end to M5x.8

It threads right in to the coolant port!
