Maybe my eyes deceive me, but it looked like they were using the "tormach tool system" instead of a real cnc tool taper.
Not sure how well a 3/4" straight shank is going to hold up with a 10 hp spindle....

It appeared the tool holders are tapered with a pull stud. At least in the first video
BT30 Taper.
Other than having more horsepower than I would need for home use the size and features are pretty good. A little more X axis travel would be good. It has less the by BF20L. Doesn't appear to have that large of a foot print. If it's priced right I could see owning one.
It does not in any way have a 1.3 second chip to chip tool change however as stated in the video.
Yeah, you are right. I missed the scene where he installed the toolholder manually.
Smithy has been busy. They have a bunch of new youtube videos up for other machines. And in Smithy's tried and true process, the machines in all their videos have completely different names than the machines on their website.

Smithy just updated their website, and it now has the VMC425, MX200, and updated pages for their cnc lathes.

Anyone know when the other ones are coming out with the larger travels? And I belive in the walk around video he says it has a 12 station atc.
I was just reading the specs on here https://smithy.com/automatecnc/vmc425 and it shows a 10 station ATC. It also show the $23,000 Talon MT300 PRO having the 12 station ATC.
Hello Eltejano tom o
Larger machines are available now, but more or less built to order. The machines highlighted on the website are the ones we keep in stock.
The 425 comes standard with a 10 position ATC. The VMC500 and up can be outfitted with a 16 tool arm style changer.
Hello Tom,
To the highest point of the machine measures right at 82 inches. That highest point is the Z axis motor. This can be removed by loosening 4 socket head cap screws. With the motor removed, you will clear without issue.
Have a great day!
Are there any actual VMC425 owners in this forum?
This forum is a little sparse now that the facebook group is up and running. Head over to the AutomateCNC group on Facebook and there are guys there w/ the VMC425.
