Read through the pages on CNCCookbook: Be a Better CNC'er for a start.
New to this forum.
I've got a 1220 (xl?) that I bought in 2005 or so. I'm primarily a wood worker (custom furniture and acoustic guitars), but I do incorporate metal into my designs and do a considerable amount of jig making. In addition to machining I'm a reasonably competent welder (gas & TIG).
I'd be very interested in a general reference guide on cutter selection, rpm, feed rates etc. for using my mill and lathe. I've found the smithy introduces quite a bit of chatter especially milling in steel. My first suspicion is operator error....The manual that came with it is mostly about machine set up and not too much about metalworking techniques.
I'd prefer a printed book or a pdf that I can print and put in a binder, as my shop is primarily a wood shop and I don't have a computer in there as the dust kills such devices pretty quickly.
Many thanks in advance,
-Charles

Get a computer based speeds and feeds calculator. Either HSMAdvisor (my choice) or GWizard (written by the guy who runs the CNCCookbook blog).
