Smithy CNC1240 Step Motor Help
Greetings,
Purchased a used Smithy CNC1240 with the EZ-Trol system (LINUXCNC).
I have had the machine for about a month and still no chips made. The computer mother board died and Smithy sent me a replacement. Hooked up all the cables and powered it up, managed to HOME all the Axes, then NOTHING. I was unable to get the spindle to start receiving only an AxisO limit error. Also, no JOG function. The display shows the numbers zooming along; but, the motors sit still. Anyway, the second mother board has died and the entire control box is at Smithy for troubleshooting.
Meantime, I have had time to do a lot of reading.
I found the instructions for the C300 VFD motor control.
Located the documentation for the PC Mother Board.
I now have the link to the BreakOut board.
What I would like to know is who makes the Step Motors? The only identification I find on the X, Y, and Z motors is...
42HZ100-60-4A
6.0A/Phase 12N.m
I did get the A-Axis rotary table and the motor is labeled....
34HZ120-03EA
4.2A/Phase 8.2 N.m
All motors have the fancy Mil Spec Quick Disconnect fittings. I suspect these are a custom Smithy installation?
Smithy has been most helpful to date. However, they are tight lipped about any question about where the parts are sourced from.
Looking forward to hearing from fellow Smithy Users.
Cheers,
Dave

Any one out in Cyberspace own a Smithy CNC1240 using EZTROL or LinuxCNC?
If so, would you consider sending me your INI and HAL files?
Everytime I issue a spindle command the machine shuts off with a "joint 0 on limit switch error".
I cannot find any hardware issues.
Cheers,
Dave

I could be way off base, but doesn't "joint" in LinuxCNC-speak refer to "axis"? If so. perhaps you have a short in one of your limit switches.

Greetings Michael,
Thanks for the reply. I believe you may be correct. All the failed events are pointing towards either a failing sensor or, possibly, electromagnetic interference from the VFD drive.
I am getting closer.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Smithy CNC1240 Step Motor Help
There is a metal plate that gets near a hall effect sensor which is the limit switch. I've had the plate come unscrewed and cause problems with the sensor. That might be something to look at.
MichaelHenry is right, LinuxCNC calls an axis a joint.
