Ab Acme Nut???

I am going to use 2 nut method with a spring in between to create a 1" od (not sure yet on the tpi) ab nut on my "y" axis. (If there is a better method of creating an ab nut, please enlighten me.)

My question is how stiff does the spring need to be?
