Learning from scratch

I have always wanted to be able to design something on a computer, then send it to a machine then watch it do its magic. Since having a workplace accident and now have limited physical abilities, and a strong interest in CAD, seeing these mills opens up a whole new & exciting path for me.

However I am starting at the ground up, can anyone tell me what I need to know when it comes to doing a drawing in cad or Rhino, what happens next.

I have a Taig micro mill and the box, what do I do or need next.

If anyone can set me on the right path, I think you will see some interesting thing I have planned for this as a base entry, then for the Homebrew 5ftx12ft model I wish to build when I have worked out what to do.

Please help if you can, I am very serious about this venture.

Depending on the type of drawing, you'd use something like either SheetCAM http://www.sheetcam.com or MeshCAM http://grzsoftware.com to generate gcode from the drawing for the machine to run.

Thanks for the info Gerry, I will give it a go.

Can you have a look at my other post and see if you think it can be done?
