New CNC Builder

I am new to building a CNC machine. I bought a Surplus 3 axis table complete with stepper motor and drive. Can anyone help what CAM program is best for beginers, K-Cam (as what I read from book) ?

KCAM has basic 2d .dxf conversion, but it's really machine control software. Do need need machine control software, or CAD? CAM?
