counterbalanceing

I have a mori nl3000y and im needing to counterbalance the chuck 12lbs anyone have any suggestions on this

I am not understanding the question, why do you need to counter balance the chuck? What diameter is the chuck and, what diameter are you turning? Robert

12" chuck 6" part 8" long heavier on one side

Maybe I'm totally off, having not seen the part, but from what you have told me you should not need a counter balance for that part. A twelve inch chuck should be ample for that part. Robert.

the part had a cored hole in it enginnering change this part and took the hole out resulting in a part that is 12lbs heavier and now the part ie cam is being ripped out of the chuck not for sure if i need to counterbalance 6lbs or the hole 12lbs

I don't know the solution to that. (engineers) But maybe you could use a fixture in the part to counter the weight of the part itself, instead of counter the chuck? Robert

They sell a spindle ballancer for this very kind of application

It is intigrated into the machine once it is setup so you dont have to install or remove it after that.
