How does a CNC laser Work?

I would love to know how a CNC laser works? Can it cut wood, and if so does it burn the edges?

Hi,

Yes it can cut wood. It leaves a bit of black colored charing on the edges. It really does an beautiful job. Here is a picture of some lasercut balsa from one of the kits I sell.

That's a good, and very common question. The answer is yes and no. Yes if you have never flown one, no if you have had lots of practice.

To fly one you usually need to be trained by an instructor. This is almost always included in the price of membership at a local R/C club. Most clubs have volunteer instructors.

Probably 100 watts. The more power, the faster you can cut. A 30 watt laser works for balsa and thin plywood.

Where can I get a laser

Where can you get a 100 watt cutting laser and how much are they? I know the turn-key CNC laser systems are very expensive, but I was wondering how much of that cost is the laser itself.

I am not sure. I know they are expensive. The odd time they show up on ebay.

As the owner of a Digital Tool 900 series machine, I'm wondering if a laser could be added to this machine, how much $$, and what sort of capabilties I could expect from it?

Here is one company that sells CO2 lasers that can be fitted to existing equipment.

Most lasers are turnkey and come with everything you need.

here are some preowned ones:
