Talking Another New project

Well I didn't mean to start another project......

But 20.00 dollars for a bridgeport style casting with table!

Thats too cheap to pass up! Although if you calculate the cost of divorce and loosing half of everything it will probably be worth every penny!

Although going halfsies on my son might be a little over the top.

All joking asside it will be a fun project and I will endevor to get some pictures on by tonight!

I picked up a Deckel engraver frame in similar condition for €20. I have mounted a Sherline ER-16 spindle on mine and run a 1/2 HP motor with a VFD and four step pulleys (the speed range is about 60-6000RPM) Unfortunately it is located an hour from my apartment

I need to update this page with some pictures of it.

The quality of the castings and ways on these old industrial machines is a huge step up from the 7X12 chinese lathe I also have.

Does that table actually have X-Y motion? or just a Z slide?

Currently it has just a Z-slide.

The reasone that I thought it would be a good base is that the table is faily large. And, of course, Old cast Iron is hard to beat.

I am thinking using the Base plate for bolting linear guides to and then fabricationg the Y-axis slide.

The head has the old box guides still intacked and the look in fair condition. Maybe a good place to bolt some more linear's?

I will have to of course mic out the table Z to see if its anywhere close to square and what not but It should be a fun project.

I am usually a stickler on the mechanical aspects of a job (probably why I am a machinist) but as far a looks and paint It will come no where near the level of your stuff Scott! Your stuff looks good enough to eat off of!
