A large spring.
I will be setting up my dust collector to cnc router and would like some ideas on how to support the hose above my cnc machine. This will be attached to Kent dust shoe. Any pics of your set up will be much appreciated.
Thanks

I just added Kents dust shoe to my machine as well. I had built my own dust shoe modeled after Kents shoe but made the mistake of putting a 2 1/2" hose connection on it.... Dumb mistake...
Anyway, for the new shoe/hose I went to the Lowes and in the plumbing section they have 4" plastic J hooks. I'm not sure how you might mount them to your ceiling but I fortunatly have some duct work directly above my machine that I was able to mount them too.
Thanks Claytonc, I just purchased some J hooks and will mount them to my ceiling. I was originally thinking of mounting it on a articulated arm but this is easier and quicker.
I just use a bungee cord, works fine and is cheap...
Probably about the same price. If you already have bungees then that would be the cheapest way to go. The J hooks might look nicer but it all gets covered in dust eventually anyway so it don't really matter in the end lol
When I changed my overhead 4" plastic ducting to 6" steel stovepipe that fits the 6" attachments of my Grizzly G0548Z dust collector I used the widest electrical staples that Lowes had. These are white plastic with two nails in it so you can drive the nails into drywall or OSB paneling or wall studs. My shop ceiling is 7/16" OSB, so I can place these just about anywhere they are needed.
I cut Velcro strips and inserted them through the staples, then joined the loose ends under the ducting. When a machine gets moved to another location it is easy to move the overhead ducting.

I pulled this from a really great thread, that's worth looking through if you haven't seen it before.

Hi Gerry,
Thats exactly what i was originally thinking of doing. I will mount the j hooks along the suspended arm and not into our gyprock ceiling which should save me from being sent to dog house by wife. Excellent Cheers !
Gerry,
That link provided is very good info, but the dust collector will work much better if you run most of the duct in metal stove pipe or something similar and only use the flex duct at the joints that will be flexing and moving. All the ribs of the flex duct create turbulence that will increase the static pressure on the DC and reduce the overall effectiveness of the system.
An option for metal duct is sometimes available at some building supply centers, gutter or sheet metal contractors, etc. is called plain round downspout. It comes as galvanized metal pipe in 4" & 6" round x 10' lengths and has a locked seam, is rigid and can be suspended easier than the flimsy 2' lengths of metal stove pipe most people use or find available. Many people may have seen the old time galvanized corrugated round downspouts on houses and commercial buildings, this is the same stuff only smooth ( without the coorugations).
Just an option that may help someone.
Thanks,
Scott
