New milling machine project

Hi All,

I've just finished updating my website with the start of my construction log for my milling machine project. Comments are most welcome.

Thumbs up

Pat,

Very slick! You do a nice job with the commentary explaining the why's and wherefore's for your choices. The site has a nice look and feel to it as well. When I get a little more time (getting ready for work right now) I'm going back to look at the rest of the site. Make sure you let us know when updates are added! Shaping up (pun) to be a nice machine. Thanks for sharing...

Evodyne

Hi Jimbo,

I am initially going to use a Taig ER16 spindle with a vari speed DC motor, but I am also considering rolling my own and incorporating an auto tool changer. Not sure really - I am sort of going to cross that bridge when I get there.

Cheers,

Pat

gimbal...any drawings you would be willing to share on the bearing blocks....I'm at that stage of thinking about how to design these....I'm turning the ends of my ballscrews at this moment....the end bearing blocks seems quite simple....just a cavity for a bearing and maybe a delrin deflector...

Hi ViperTX,

I have updated the Bearing Blocks Pt I article (http://www.gimbal.com.au/content.asp...bearing-blocks) to include a link to the drawings.

Couple of things:

1. These blocks are to suit 7200B Angular Contact Bearings (30mmOD/10mmIDx9mm)- sizes would have to be adjusted for different size bearings
2. A spacer is required a smidge smaller that the bearing OD and thick enough that the outer races are compressed when the cap is screwed on - make sure the bore in the spacer is big enough to clear the inner races of the bearings.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Pat

Pat, thank you for being so generous and sharing! It will greatly reduce my design time.
