1) Don't use HSS tools with wood, they won't last long.
2) Don't use 4 flute tools with wood.
3) You should almost never use an rpm less than 10,000-12,000 when cutting wood.
Try a 2 flute tool, at 14,000 rpm and 200 ipm
Yes I am new and have been sorely trying to figure out the world of feeds and speeds. Right now I am milling with Vetric Cut2D with pine. I have a 4 flute HSS .5 " bit @ 1200 rpm 30 ipm. It is screeching horribly and I am afraid its going to burn out the bearings of the spindle. Does this feed rate sound normal? Should it be screeching? Where can I find comprehensive feed rate info that I can easily understand?
I would appreciate the help.
