Question 1720 XMTC White - quill tool holder?

Hi all, I bought a 1720 XMTC ( White ) used for $100 and have it all moving, cleaned and oiled. It had been sitting inside somewhere, I don't think it has seen very much work if any. It had been dropped I think , on the control cabinet end, but I've got that bent back out. One drum switch missing. One capacitor on each motor took a beating but both motors fire up.
I'm putting a home shop together starting with this little machine since it will be the quickest to bring on line. A Southbend 16 X 60 will be delivered this week. I got it for $200 but it has been out in the weather for some time, almost nothing moves as of now. A Kearney & Trecker horizontal mill should be here next week which I got for $300. It is in working order though I will either have to install a single phase motor or get a converter. Same goes for the Southbend.
From all I've read about threading with this model 1720 I think I'll not bother. My plan is to use it to make wharever I need to bring the Southbend up and do my threading on it.
So I have the following questions for now, I sure hope somone can help.

Can anyone tell me what type end mill holder it takes? R-8 ?

It came with a chinese drill chuck with a morse taper and a 3/8 x 16 female thread and piece of 3/8 x 16 allthread as a drawbar. The spindle looks to be morse taper ( has slot for a wedge to remove mt's).

    Are 4 jaw chucks available?

Does anyone have a copy of the owners manual they would share?

There is 3.875" ( approx. ) from the compound table to the chuck center, will the HF aloris style QCTP work?

I've seen that some folks are using digital scales and adapting them as poor boy DRO's. Where can the digital scales be sourced the cheapest?

Thanks in advance for all your help, Knn

If the motors both work and you have all the gears etc. you got a super deal. Those early machines had a MT 3 mill spindle. There was a conversion kit available for R-8, so maybe check in with JT to see if the unit was ever upgraded. The same 4 jaw that Shoptask sells will fit the older machines too.
Looks like with some imagination and elbow grease, you could get a nice shop set up for under 1000.00.

"If the motors both work and you have all the gears etc."

Yeah about that, that's another question I should have asked. The gears that came with it were all installed and as yet I haven't figured out how to change the order in any way.

Are there additional gears other than what are installed?

"Looks like with some imagination and elbow grease, you could get a nice shop set up for under 1000.00. "

If we don't count tooling, accessories, upgrades, converters/ single phase motors etc. etc. etc.
But that's the way I've always had to do it lacking capitol.
Thanks for the info. How do I contact JT?

All the Shoptask/Shopmaster machines came with a full set of threading gears- 17 in all. You should call JT at 800 343 5775 or look on the website
