    Stainless Steel

Anyone familiar with stainless steel? I have some potential jobs, and would appreciate any info on types of cutting tools, coolant, feed rates etc.
    Thanks in advance

What grade? What ever you get, watch the temper, especially if your milling plate which is readily available 1/2 hard, not so easy to find annealed, atleast with my local suppliers.

    What process? Milling, turning?

Coolant, if any, depends on process and tooling.
Tooling depends on process, machine ridgidity, grade of stainless, spindle horsepower and RPM. So on and so forth.

You should probably post as many details as possible so people can argue over the best answer.

Stainless 47 S.F.M. for hss drills. 1" dia. feed at 0.004-0.006 per revolution. That is a very moderate speed and feed rate , one that will provide excellent tool life. Peck at 1/2 the dia. of a drill. 1' drill peck at .500 or less. Don't work harden the steel, (over heat) if that happens try carbide to get past the "CRUST" thanks for asking. Stailess has been cut since your daddy was a kid.
