    "New" Shopmaster 2000

    HI All,
Just picked up a new in the crate Shopmaster 2000 for $500. The guy bought it in 2000 and never uncrated it. Sat in his garage until this month when his wife finally said get it our of here. Got it home and have it uncrated with the milling head and accessories removed. Once I get it on the stand and get all the packing grease removed and cleaned up, what are some of the things I should look for? I have found a few web pages with tips and hints, but I want to know what the priorities are. I also want to get a DRO for it and am looking for someone who makes a "bolt on kit". I am going to call JT at Shoptask and see what is still available for it from them. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

That was a super buy! When I sold my 17-20 model I got near the new price. The 2000 model has a lot of the features of the newer machines-
Did you get the Quadra Lift option as well? Those models had all the DRO points built in, so you can probably just order up a DRO from Shoptask that will bolt right on. Since it was new in the crate, you must have all the tools. I would watch for any corrosion issues depending on the humidity of the area where it was stored.

Well I called JT just after I picked the 2000 up and low and behold he had one Shooting Star DRO left over. Installation took a bit of time to get the racks level and make sure there was no binding. One of the encoders had a problem from the factory. Called Shooting Star and they replaced it for the cost of shipping. I can't complain seeing as the kit had been sitting on JT's shelf for almost 6 years. It's all set now and works great. Time to really make some chips. Would like to build my own CNC for it but I will put that off for a while. Next thing is to build a Quadralift for it. Have all the plans in hand. Now I need to make and buy the parts.
