Stranahan's stuff is pretty impressive and he has a lot of imagination. This French rifle is a new one on me. I am thinking of doing the gatling gun from plan in Home Shop Machinist, but not until I have had some more experience.
Here's a link to a post that I found very interesting and right up my alley. Good reading for those who have read the book by John Stranahan about his 50 caliber target rifles.

Nothing on that link about guns at this time.
My uncle (Sam) back in the 60's had me using a 50 cal built from a m.g. barrel and using m.g. shells. Surgically accurate but brutal to use. Can't imagine why any one would want one nor just what the hell they could use it for.
You have to go to message 20, I believe, to see some photos of the FR-F1 sniper and my first try at building one. I'm working on version 2 right now. Lots of design and machining to do, I have to copy the trigger guard/safety and the bipod assembly using only photographs to provide guidance. I have a second receiver now and am starting over using an FAL magazine, which is about .030" thinner than the MAS magazine I used for version 1.
The FR-F1 is quite a capable rifle. It dominated sniper rifle trials in the early 1960's, but was passed over by everyone but the French since NATO had adopted the 7.62 x 51 (.308) round. The later version, FR-F2, is still in use in 7.62 NATO.

On post 19 there are two jpg's, the one on the left has three rifles and the one in the rear bears a marked similarity to the one I used.
"Mine", however, had incorporated into the stock a couple of shock absorbers. The thing used 50 mg shells and would literally lift your upper body off the ground when firing from the prone. ( Never attempted any other position with the beast!)
It was very accurate. Body area strikes at 1 1/4 miles. Damned near got me killed. Really got 'em stirred up and hot!
Nuff said, prolly shouldn't have said this much.

No greater love can a man have than this, that he give his life for a friend.
The guy who was "spotting " for me said the shot struck high and that they got so damned mad because he couldn't save face.
They some how picked up the trail and tracked us back to camp. Then hell really broke loose!
Anyway, just thought you all might be interested in hearing from one who has used the tool for it's intended purpose.
Effective!
