Hi again, you might have some difficulty matching the motors since they are metric. If you are not going to upgrade, why not talk to shoptask about a warranty replacement and replace the caps with good ones?
Hi All,
Last night my Eldorado mill motor performed the exploding capacitor show!
Got to see what the insides of the motor start capacitor looks like not to mention I decorated the rafters in my garage. Noticed the motor housing was ultra super hot after running for about 5 minutes.
Let everything cool down, then I replaced the cap with one off the lathe motor, to test to see if the motor would still run and if it was heating up again.
Nope, let the smoke out of the motor. Tore the motor down this morning and the windings are smoked inside. Interestingly enough, the motor starting contacts still looked ok though and they were not sticking.
Anyway, I went out this afternoon on a search for a new motor from local vendors. No luck.
Has anyone found a direct replacement for the Eldorado motor?
1-HP, Single Phase (I can go with 120 or 208), 3/4" Shaft w/keyway
Thanks,
-Steve

If you run into difficulty sourcing "things metric" it might be worth your while to google for some Canadian suppliers. We're metric up here (although I'm old enough that I still convert nearly everything). The US buck still buys a bit more than the Canuck buck but then our prices tend to be a bit higher as well. Still a lot cheaper and simpler than going to the EU or Japan though! - Gerry
