| no binding here on my Z..... that I have seen..... but, I did notice about 0.001-0.003" of flex on the quill arm that the screw seats on... I have considered Remaking it out of Steel, but have not got around to it yet. Bought "High Precision" Bearings for both spindles as well, and havent put them in yet eigther......... Mostly, I use my ST for quicky, R and D stuff, do my big work on a BP II. I use the lathe on the ST, for quick turn stuff as well. That machine was my first build, many, many years ago........ I can't really complain, once you spend the time to get the machine working correctly, (i.e. gibs/way issues), it really is a nice little machine. I had a Tomach Loner machine for a while, while doing a prototype ATC for them, and the little ST was holding better tolorances. But to be fair, I had to rework my ways/gibs. The lathe on the ST is VERY good though.... almost afraid to replace the OEM bearings with the new ones..... scott

| Thanks for teh info, Scott. I think I will try the single-ballscrew setup, and only do a more-elaborate one with 2 screws if the first one doesn;t work out right. I will probably make a more beefy steel bracket to attach to the bottom of the spindle/axis-I am considering ways to attach it to the spindle-I am thinking of making it curcular, except for teh projection that goes out to the side to accept the ballscrew-and instead of just clamping it on to the spindle, like teh stock piece. I think I will drill it for radial screws, that will be drilled and tapped into the spindle. Andy

| Hi smallblock: you mention "sandwich brackets". Is that what they use on the newer ones? The bracket on my Shoptask 2000 Eldorado Quadralift is one-piece, and it clamps around the circumference of the quill.
