Sheetcam and Windows 2000

I do all the CAM work on the office computer which has XP Pro as the OS. Occationally I need to edit a .job file at the CNC computer which uses Windows 2000. When I open a .job file on the CNC computer, Sheetcam locks up and I have to reboot. However, if I start a new .job file on the CNC computer, it works fine. Is there a fix for this? I've also noticed that the part commands under the file menu heading are missing on the computer with Win2000. It presently has v2.1.7 installed.

I'm using SheetCam on XP and a Pro2000 and have not experienced that problem. Have you tried un-installing and reinstalling a fresh copy of SheetCam?

Are they both licensed copies?

What would that have to do with that problem?

I was thinking if 1 copy was not licensed, SheetCAM possibly wouldn't open the file.

Oh, I think the unregistered version allows up to 500 lines of code, but as far as I know it's a full working copy with only that limitation.

Both have the license installed. I've now noticed that it doesn't really lock up. The arrow cursor changes to the hourglass and takes a long time to respond to mouse movements. It also will work fine on some .job files and not on others.

There should be no problem with Windows 2000. A lot of the testing and development work is done on machines running 2000. One thisng that is worth trying is to turn off graphics acceleration. Some graphics drivers can have problems with SheetCam. Right click on the desktop and select Properties. Now click on the Settings tab then the Advanced button. Click on the Troubleshooting tab then move the graphics acceleration slider fully to the left. The part commands are not visible unless you have a part loaded.

Turning off the graphics acc. did the trick but setting it two notches to the right also works and restores some basic functionality to the accelerator. Although it seems to take about a minute's wait time from the moment the mouse has control of the desktop cursor to being able to launch an app. Guess that's the difference between a P4 with XP and a P3 with W2000. I can live with that!

Try updating the drivers for your video card. That may let you turn the acceleration back up.

I believe all the drivers were updated when I upgraded the OS from ME to 2K last jan. I'll look into that just to be sure.

Depending on the video card, a lot of drivers are constantly being updated. It's always a good idea to periodically check for new drivers.
