Looks like I have a dead encoder on one of my servo motors. Are there any other encoders that will work easily with these motors? If not, is there a source for inexpensive encoders (I'm currently watching ebay)? |

| There are Renco 1000 line through-hole encoders on ebay right now, the bearing type, the cable is a bit tricky to make up, you may want Renco to supply if you pick up one. The present encoders are most likely 1000 or 2000p/rev. Al.

| I have 2000 pulse now. I am very limited with machining capabilities right now so mounting is an issue. Alternatively I could replace the motor/encoder with something newer but would need something that fits the fanuc 5m mount. Do you know of anything comperable to the 5m fanuc? |

| Most of the DC motors of that size and era were Getty's based design, Fanuc and Mitsubishi both made a version which were essentially identical, there are not many DC motors around any more that are comparable. Al.

| Al, do you happen to know which encoders will mount to the 5M motor? It seems that there are a lot of different fanuc encoders available and there seems to be some interchangeability. What I have now is the A860-0300-T001. I'd love to be able to decipher the part numbers to be able to figure out which ones will bolt up. I dont mind increasing or decreasing the pulse count, just looking for an easy/economical solution. An alternative would be which motors use the same style encoder so that I could broden my search. I'd be fine buying a motor if I know the encoder will work. |

| Unfortunately I only have a cross for the encoder on AC motors, On the DC motors I have seen quite a few different mounting patterns and makes of encoders used. It may be an option to change the whole motor and encoder if you can find one the same frame size and S number, if the encoder is not compatible physically, just swap the whole motor. They come up on ebay often. Al.
