Hi, I have a question about some used Ametek tape drive motors I just bought. The seller advertised the motors as being 24VDC, 625 RPM. However, when I received the motors, I noticed that the back cover is printed with 60VDC nominal. I suspect that I have a 60VDC motor, not a 24VDC motor. Anyone have any ideas? Am I missing something? Thanks! Mitchell |

| Yeah, the 60VDC is stamped in ink on the back cover of the motor. I don't have any information about the current rating unless it is hidden in the other numbers stamped on the back- definitely not obvious though- seller said 1 amp no load for what it is worth. The leads coming out of the motor appear to be 14awg, so 10-12 amps seems reasonable. Thanks for the reply. |

| What is the ohm reading in the windings? if it is 24 then you have a 24 v motor based on the 1 amp that the seller told you. If it is less around 8 or so I would suspect you have 60 v motors. Did you buy these from kevin? I have a set of 60 vdc motors from him, and can give you more info if you need it?

| Unfortunately, I am out of town so it will be impossible to measure the resistance of the windings for a while. Do you suggest measuring across the leads or do I need to pull the back cover and measure directly across the commutator? I know that the brushes are in electrical contact with the commutator but it seems like they might touch more than one segment at a time. Maybe I'm not thinking about this right though. Really, I just wanted to make sure that there was no known hidden gotcha--I'm really not used to buying surplus that is as old as I am! Cheap though. I'm sure that the motors are indeed 60V given the markings. It just seems like the seller should be able to read the back of the motor and advertise the appropriate spec. I may have gotten the wrong item. No, didn't buy them from Kevin. Got them from surpluscenter.com. Trubleshtr, if you have more info on the 60V motors, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again. |
