Well...This is my first post, but have gained an enormous amout of knowledge from the site. I am pretty much complete with the mechanical construction of a 5' x 10' cnc machine and am getting ready to dive into the electrical portion. I was wondering if anyone had experience with MAE Servo motors. The one's I may be purchasing are the M644 model (part no. m644 1340 127 635 13TSZ). I have found what i think is the link to Penn Engineering who is the current supplier and list all of the specs of the motor, http://www.pennmotion.com/mae_brush/brush_600dt.html. I am hoping to get around 200ipm cutting rate with about 600 ipm jog. Will these motors be sufficient??? I will probably go with the Rutex controller. My initial reaction was to go with 1 inch .25 pitch ball screws for all 3 axis. The gantry probably ways in the area of 150 to 200 lbs. Does this look like I am on the right track or am I a bit off kilter.. Any info would truly be appreciated... Thanks.... |

| I'm at the same stage as you are and plan on using the exact same motors & controllers. I'm fairly confident they will work fine. My project is a 5'x4' moving XY table/fixed spindle machine with 1.25"dia ballscrews. My main concern was table & screw inertias effect on acceleration. I found Danaher Motioneering motor selection software very useful. You can find it at www.motionvillage.com You can also see some of my pics at www.azsigns.ca Chris |

| Thanks for the reply Chris....Its actually kind of funny....I am assuming you got your motors from Tony as well.. He has actually mentioned you to me and gave me your website address a couple of weeks ago to check out....I am actually in the sign business as well and building this machine to help expand my business....I am very impressed with the stuff you have made.... I am hoping to go in that direction as well.... Tony has been very helpful in helping me get my machine built. Fortunately he is only about 2 miles from me.. Have you decided on encoders for the motors??. From my novice approach, it looks as though something will have to be fabricated to mount the encoder and keep it from spinning??? Thanks again.... Cheers.. Chris |
