I have several 24 V Hitachi DC motors that say the output is 55 Watts. They are about 4 inches in diameter, but only about 1 inch thick (long?) Does anyone have experience with using this type of motor for CNC application? They are brushed motors. I can easily link them to encoders as they have shafts on both ends (sides). |

| No real experience here, but a while back I wanted to buy some. But then I was told by the experts here that these kind of motors have a very low inductance and cannot be used on regular servo drives. You will have to check the specs of your motors and find an appropriate driver. Later I found some documents on the Net that it was possible on a regular drive by adding an external inductor so that the drive sees the correct inductance. I didn't buy the drives and don't know if the extra inductor will work satisfactory. This is all I know on these style of motors, hope it helps a bit. . |

| There is not much you are going to do with 55watts if these are direct drive motors. Some pancake styles have planetary gearing built in. This takes advantage of their higher RPM torque curve. Direct drive, they probably won't have much torque at lower RPMs either. More suited for constant RPMs like fans etc. DC
