Problem in replacing an encoder with another

Hi,
I have an ELTRA encoder which has electronic output configuration (Line Driver) as said in the catalogue. I have another ELSIS encoder which has electronic output configuration (Line Drive 26LS31).
The old ELTRA encoder was damaged and I want to replace it with the ELCIS encoder. I just want to know if it is possible or not. I should mention yhat both encoders are identical in resolution, pulses per seconds, voltage supply and both give A, A- , B , B- , Z , Z- signals.
Is there any problem with the electronic output configuration ?
Can anyone please explain what is meant by (electronic output configuration)

Thank you,
Waleed

There is most likely no problem with subbing the one you have with the original.
Electronic output configuration refers to the type of output drive system used, i.e. Differential line driver, open collector. push-pull etc.
In your case they appear the same, differential line driver.

Thanks very much Al,
But still one thing I don't understand, what is exactly meant by (drive system used) ? and what is the difference between different drive systems ?
Sorry for the silly questions but I am a mechanical engineer and these names seem strange to me.

Thanks again,
Waleed.

Electronic drive system refers to the nature of the electronic technology used to interface one system with another.
If you Wilkipedia Differential receiver, open collector and push-pull output you should get an explanation.
Differential is a dual output transmission system whose characteristics tend to mutually reject any imposed noise on the transmitted signal.
Open collector refers to an transistor output that has an open collector and sometimes can be used at much higher voltages than the 5v TTL level making it noise immune.
Push-Pull offers a low impedance (current driven) output with the same effect.
Differential is usually the medium of choice for noise free encoder signal transmission.
