Over the past decade, I've built several 2 and 3-axis NC rigs, mostly using stepper drives and motors I picked up at local surplus shops, and later, on eBay. Now I'm into servos-- finding all sorts of offerings on eBay. Thus far, I have developed a great fondness for Parker/Compumotor components because they have easily accessible documentation for everything they make (including obsolete products) on their website: http://www.parkermotion.com/manuals/literature_user.htm But when I have tried to find comparable information for other brands (like Pac Sci, Allen Bradley, Electrocraft, Yaskawa) I can never seem to find manuals with all the detailed info I need (like full specs., cable pinouts, etc.). Just wondering if I'm giving up too fast-- does anyone have some juicy links that might expand my servo smorgasboard to more than just Parker's line? Bruce |

| A couple of problems with surplus motor market is that many makes have been gobbled up over the years, mostly by Parker. Gettys went API-Gettys then they all morphed with Kollmorgen and Pacific-Scientific and Danaher, before being taken over by Parker, and along the way the support for some of the older models went by the way-side. Reliance - ElectroCraft was taken over by Allen-Bradley (Rockwell International). The other issue is many motors come on the market that are either standard motors that are re-labeled by a particular OEM, or have an OEM part number. Fortunately, I hung on to all the motor spec catalogues I accumulated over the years, before it came customary to post PDF's on the web etc. This has proved to be a gold mine. There is still info on sites such as Aerotech, CMC, Applied Motion, Tamagawa, many Electro-Craft can be found on the Rockwell site. In some cases it has been a case of reverse-engineering and finding specs by measurement. Al.
