At work the other night, I wrote down the specs of the X axis servo motor on the machine I run. Rack and pinion on both X axis ways. Stall Cont - 40RMS amps 44.8 Nm Stall Peak - 148.6RMS amps 126.1Nm Volts - 230 Rated RMS Max Speed - 3050RPM This was all that was on the spec plate on the motor. The machine is capable of 200ipm in X and Y and 60ipm in Z. The motor is connected to a gear box, but I have no idea of the ratio. Nm is a torque rating right? Here's a bad picture of the machine http://www.premac.com/images/532.jpg . We were cutting the parts pictured. 3 spindle/5 axis 60hp spindles @ 30" centers Table 120" wide by 1,440" long. X Axis = 1,332" travel. Y Axis = 68" travel. Z Axis = 28" travel. Z Axis = 33" clearance A & B = +/-25.0 degrees of travel Standing under the machine when B is tilted over 25degrees really makes you appreciative of the safeguards taken to ensure it won't over travel and fall. |

| Hi, What type of gearbox is used? I know it would be humungous on that machine, but I'm looking for the "right" gearbox to drive my smaller racks on both sides and want to avoid introducing play through it. Of course the gearbox I am seeking is of a much smaller scale. Hopefully I will keep the racks high with the gantry arms short, but having the table low with high frame sides supporting the rails and racks. Kinda like a recessed table. A hollow thru-shaft right angle gearbox is desired to lock onto the rack's pinions cross-drive shaft and would travel with the gantry. Please tell me more about the gearbox.... For my system I figure I will need about a 25 to 1 ratio through the gearbox. Travell will be about 3.5 feet for X and 3 feet for Y. Z travel I would like to keep around 12 to 18 inches and have an insert to raise table levels for more precise close/flat machining or routing. John Last edited by Bloy2004; 10-27-2004 at 12:17 PM. |

| Sorry, but I don't have any info on the gear box. The only thing I can say is that the motor is mounted so that it is parallel with X axis. So there has to be some type of gearing that transfers the force 90 degrees. Don't think I'll tear into the gear box any time soon. I kind of need my job. |

| Looks to me like a worm and pinion gearbox setup. they are not usually noted for their precision, unless the encoder is on the rack. (Cincinnati Milacron?) Al
