I am new to ac servos and their use in cnc. I am getting ready to start my first mill retrofit. I have a Beavermill MK.2 that currently has AC servos with resolvers. As part of the package deal I have an oportunity to get 4 Ormec MAC-DA055G/I AC servo motors. From my research I have found that these are 220v 3phase servo motors that have a continuous current of 12A and a continuous torque of 56 in-lbs. The servos already have an encoder attached to them. I know that if they were DC servos I would just buy some Geckos and be done with it. Since they are not, I am not sure what kind of ac servo drive I need or is available for use with mach 3.
Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can purchase ac drives for these servo motors or would I be better off to pass on the ac servos and purchase some dc servo motors elsewhere? I believe I will be able to get all 4 ac servo motors for $1000. Since I will be running this machine off of a rotary phase converter would that influence what I should do?
FYI, this retrofit is for my personal use and I have an electronics background but not a strong cnc background.
Thanks ahead of time for any help,
Brian
