I would like some help with a Sankyo MC101NS302SNN24 3 phase ac servo. The motor specs are ac 200-230v 100 watt .90A rms 3000r/min There are four heavy wires for the motor (Black - Red - White + a Ground) and seven small encoder wires (red, red-black, white, white-black, yellow, yellow-black & green) I do not have the drive that matches the servo. I have no idea how to the connect the wires and can't find any documentation on this servo. I removed the cover for the encoder and there are no markings that I can see on the pc board. This is a nema 17 size and I would not have a problem replacing it with a nema 17 stepper however I dont think a stepper will have enough torque. This servo fits a 30" long linear rail assembly and it is directly coupled to the ball screw. I could also purchase a new encoder if someone would spec out the correct drive I need for this unit. Please tell me what options and solutions there might be for my delema. Thank You Jeff Alessi jalessi@aol.com |

| the encoder wiring suggests that it's actually a resolver. An encoder would probably have one more wire, if not 4 more wires. Since you've taken the lid off, do you know for sure that it's an encoder? A resolver is going to look like a can, and you probably can tell that there is a rotor on the motor shaft. If it is an encoder, it doesn't have enough wires to be differential. the other option is 3 hall tracks, 2 quadrature tracks, an index track, power and ground. But you don't have enough wires for that either. Leave off the index track, and that might be it. If the obvious pairs (i.e. red/red white) have continuity, that is a resolver. |

I would agree, especially being an AC servo. Unfortunately it cannot be replaced with an encoder, unless some kind of commutation is provided. With just a resolver, it indicates it was used as AC sinusoidal servo. Al.

| Gentleman, It sounds as if this servo will not work for my application, so please tell me what can I replace this with? Will a nema 17 stepper motor have enough torque to replace this?
